Peermont Resorts Unite for Mandela Day 2025
Resorts give back with heartfelt acts across local communities
Friday, July 18, 2025
In celebration of Mandela Day 2025, Peermont Resorts across the country joined forces to take action and inspire lasting change in local communities, embodying the spirit of Ubuntu and the enduring values of Nelson Mandela. In the true spirit of a #WinningTeam, each resort led impactful initiatives aligned with Mandela’s legacy of dignity, compassion, and social justice.
Mandela Day is more than a tribute—it’s a global movement that challenges individuals and organizations to dedicate 67 minutes of their time to make a difference. Peermont Resorts embraced this challenge with heart and purpose, activating a series of community projects that uplift, support, and empower the most vulnerable.
‘Mandela Day is a call to action for all of us,’ says Fihliwe Molefi, Peermont HR Executive. ‘Every act of kindness—big or small—can create ripples of hope. At Peermont, we believe in using our resources, time and teamwork to uplift the communities that surround our resorts. That’s what makes us a #WinningTeam.’
Here’s how each resort made a difference on Mandela Day 2025:
Frontier Inn
A Brighter Future for Bumble Bees Day Care
Frontier Inn invested R20 000 into Bumble Bees Day Care Centre, donating essential items such as paint, mattresses, educational toys, and much-needed tables and chairs. A warm meal was also provided for the children. The support not only enhances early childhood development but also restores dignity and independence to a centre that previously relied on borrowed furniture.
Emperors Palace
Empowering Youth through Hospitality
Emperors Palace supported the Oos Rand Hospitality School by donating furniture to the school’s Coffee Shop and refurbishing the learners’ change room. This initiative enables the school to generate income and provides learners with greater privacy and comfort, fostering growth in a vital skills-development environment.
Khoroni
Reviving Healthcare Spaces in Shayandima
Khoroni focused its efforts on the Shayandima Community Health Clinic, where team members cleaned and painted clinic rooms. This R4 500 investment enhances hygiene and restores dignity to patients who rely on the clinic for their basic healthcare needs.
Mmabatho Palms
Nourishing and Connecting with the Elderly
Mmabatho Palms hosted a soup kitchen at Lapa La Botlhe Aged Care Centre, where warm, nutritious meals were served to elderly residents. The initiative addressed not only hunger but also the emotional well-being of seniors, reinforcing social inclusion and care in their later years.
Rio
A Multi-Tiered Drive for Community Upliftment
Rio Casino, in partnership with stakeholders such as Chatz Vodacom, SAPS, Panarottis, Klerksdorp Rotary Club, Miss Bold, and Miss Klerksdorp 2025, spearheaded a comprehensive community development campaign.
Adult nappies were delivered to Rethabile Old Age Home. Soup, pizza, fruit packs, and second-hand clothing were distributed at Nkagisang Primary School. And children’s tables, chairs, colouring books, and crayons were donated to Klerksdorp Hospital and the Children’s Court. Dormitories were painted and towels donated at Atamelang Children’s Home—ensuring warmth, hygiene, and joy for the young residents.
Graceland
Honouring the Resilience of the Blind Community
Graceland extended warmth and solidarity to 43 blind residents of Embalenhle Township. The team spent the day offering companionship and served hot soup and bread. Each resident also received a blanket—bringing both physical comfort and emotional support to a deeply resilient community.
Thaba Moshate
Dignity for Children with Disabilities
Thaba Moshate invested R20 000 in transforming Lehlaba Protective Workshop Services. The team painted and repaired the centre, donated clothing and food, and upgraded the storeroom into a kitchen with a new gas stove. The initiative enhances care for children with disabilities who cannot attend traditional schools, offering them a space filled with dignity, respect, and functionality
Umfolozi
Creating Smiles in the Paediatric Ward
Umfolozi partnered with Ngwelezana Hospital’s paediatric ward to bring joy, love, and critical support to children in need. Staff spent the day assisting medical teams, donated linen, toys, and a printer, and helped foster a child-friendly healing environment. The initiative supported 22 children—many from child-headed households or families living on pensions—with much-needed care and encouragement.
Each initiative reflects the Peermont commitment to sustainable community involvement—beyond a single day of service. These efforts embody the values Nelson Mandela dedicated his life to: equality, dignity, and hope. To read more about Peermont’s Corporate Social Investment initiative, click here.
